How To Buy Jewelry: A Simple Guide
When buying jewelry, your choice will ultimately be determined by your taste. Yet there are a few more factors you might want to consider as well to make sure that, that next favorite piece of jewelry is not simply pretty, but makes YOU beautiful.
The necklace is meant to draw attention to the neckline and bust. If it is the right choice for you, it will elongate the neck, face and torso. When buying a necklace, you might want to consider:
Shape
- Oblong and round necklaces are flattering on heart-shaped, square and rectangular faces.
- Oblong styles or ones that fall in a “V” flatter round faces.
- Chunky beads accentuate size so heavier women might prefer pieces that lie flat.
Length
- A mid-length necklace – one which falls between the collarbone and the bust – flatters most figures.
- Women with shorter necks, fuller busts or round faces might want to opt for oblong necklaces that hit mid-chest.
- Long necklaces look nice on women with short necks, broad shoulders or short torsos. If you have a fuller bust or a protruding tummy; however, a long necklace will only emphasize those areas. A necklace that ends above the bust might be a better option.
- A necklace that falls under the bust can make a short woman appear taller if she is not too busty.
- Chokers that sit on or near the collarbone complement a long neck or an angular face and disfavor a round or square face.
Earrings
Earrings elongate the neck and, draw attention away from flaws, and can make a face look slimmer. When buying earrings, have one rule in mind: your earrings shape should counteract your facial shape, not repeat it.
Oval Face Anything goes! Dangles and triangles are most flattering.
Rectangular Face Avoid elongated earrings and straight angles as they emphasize face length. Opt for hoops and round pieces instead.
Round Face Angular designs and elongated shapes can help to slim a full face so you might want to consider oblongs, rectangles and straight dangles as opposed to large, round earrings or anything chunky that sits on the lobe.
Heart-Shaped Face Most earring styles are flattering on a heart-shaped face with the exception of those ending in a point. Look for shapes opposite to your face, that is wider at the bottom than at the top.
Square Face Since large earrings that sit on the ear can make your lace look wider, you might want to consider small, oval or oblong earrings and hoops instead.
